SYNOPSIS:
For the first time, actor Hristo Shopov sits behind the camera to direct, produce and write the script of the film ‘STAND BY’.
In ‘STAND BY’, we come across a film dedicated to a little-known sport in Bulgaria; IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation), in which Hristo Shopov takes viewers on a 30 minute journey of a type of shooting sport based on accuracy, power, and speed, hence its distinctive initials in Latin DVC (Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas) by which the sport is known internationally. In Bulgaria it adopts the name ‘Dinamichna Strelba’.
Throughout this film that Hristo Shopov presents in the form of a documentary, there are certain themes, from different points of view, like what the practice of IPSC consists of, how it grew in Bulgaria, who can practice it, rules, training, the firearm, and its philosophy, etc.
We learn from the film that it is a thrilling, entertaining, fun and above all dynamic shooting sport discipline, which the public can enjoy almost as much as the shooter. It is the only one that mixes physical form, technique, precision, power and speed (Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas). A sport where technique by itself is of little use if it isn’t accompanied by physical power and speed.
It features some of the most respected IPSC experts in Bulgaria to tackle these topics in the documentary; a trainer, specialists and Bulgarian champions (in both the male and female category) with trophies from a high level both on the national and international stage.
IPSC was born in the United States at the end of the 1960s. It quickly spread to the rest of the world due to, most importantly, the spectacle that the sport creates. Switzerland played host to the first world championship in 1975. It was officially recognised as a sport by Bulgaria in 2005.
‘STAND BY’ is the first documentary-film made in Bulgaria to be seriously dedicated to IPSC. With it, without doubt, the viewer will be able to get a good idea of this type of sport, based on discipline and respect of firearms, founded especially on security in the use of the firearm and responsibility of the shooter, as well as burying the idea that firearms are associated with aggression. Ultimately, ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people.’
